Somnia is a conceptual health tool that helps you visualize and understand your nervous system in real-time.
Most of us move through the day reacting to stress, tiredness, or anxiety without really knowing why. Our nervous system is constantly adjusting in the background (speeding up, slowing down, trying to find balance) but we rarely notice those signals until something feels off.
Somnia helps make those signals visible.
The challenge
I wanted to explore how AI tools could become part of my everyday design workflow. Instead of using them just for quick outputs, I was interested in seeing how they could help shape an entire visual identity. Coincidentally, I had been reading about Steiner’s theory of the 'warmth organism' and saw a unique opportunity to bridge the two. Steiner believed that the exchange of warmth between people is how we truly communicate empathy and presence.
That immediately made me think of a health tool focused on the nervous system.
The process
Starting with a few prompts, I began generating visuals using diffusion, blur, and dither as the core aesthetic. From there, the brand started to emerge: a concept for a tool that helps people better understand the signals of their mind and body. These aesthetics mirror the way Steiner described energy, where diffusion and blur represent the softening of boundaries during heat exchange, while dithering captures the granular, electric nature of the nervous system as it processes these signals.
